Only snag with Firefox is you have to keep a browser window open during the download period.

Best alternative is to get yourself "Getright" one click download manager, does it as a side process, can split downloads and find alternative sources and other good things. Top bit of additional kit that always gets intstalled on any PC I have, 2nd only to Winzip.

save link doesn't do it.
for instrance i've just ben to the thread on the radio controlled plane, in there is a windows media player file that you can download and play later rather than let it play in the browser window in eral time so to speak. in IE it does save it as the video onto my hard drive, but in firefox choosing save link just saves *airbus* as a text file

That's because it is a protected source that you can't download. Stops people downloading it and forces them to visit their site instead to see it each time.

But there are ways. Streambox might capture it or if you had Getright you could "view Source" of the webpage, find the SRC (WMV or ASF link) copy it and past the URL into Getright to download.

Is it the video of the mini A380?

Just right click on the video, go to properties and copy the file location. Then just paste this in a new tab. Hit return and it'll ask you if you want to view it or save it.

If you have installed AdBlock you can open that up and the .avi, .wmv or whatever file it is will be on that list, you can then copy and paste that link into the address bar to download the file.

lol thanks for the replies guys, but most are longer-winded than just opening IE and hitting *save target as* which is what i do at the moment. Seems strange though that firefox doesn't have a similar easy-download function.

save link as always worked for me, incl the a380. Is there a small red circle in the top right underneath minimise? Thats the update button, chances are you may be on an older version and it wont work.

Right click - save link does work on that if you do it on the yellow text that says 'To download, right click "save target as"'.

The URL is http://media.mediabum.com/fm/airbus.wmv

Doesn't work on mine. have just updated and no change .. clicking on either the video or the yellow link under it results in the same thing .. it wants to save it as a text file .. ie it literally saves a link to the video on the web, but won't save the video itself.

IE does it perfectly so i'll just keep on using IE if i want to *right click and save as ..*

thanks for the suggestions though people

Aah, but does it actually save as a text file when you OK it?

Mine sometimes claims a video is a text file when I go to save it but once downloaded, plays like a video fine.
