Are you using a Netgear router by any chance?

If so, their buggy firmware has issues with MTU sizes that cause problems with Hotmail, use something like drTCP to change your MTU size to 1458 on your wireless card.

Odd that my netgear DG834G works fine with messenger - over wireless to my laptop or desktop.

In the router web admin page you can enable UPnP (universal plug an play) and messenger opens the ports it wants too.

As an aside on ZeN my MTU is set to 1500 on all adapters/router etc. I have got path MTU enabled though.

MTU size can be a bit of a red herring (unless your using AOL for broadband where EVERYTHING needs to be set to 1400)

No using a linksys, had it working fine at a different house could it be the ISP in some way even though its working fine on other sites or is it going to be a setting somewhwere in your opinion ? it has never worked despite trying to log on over 100 times

I would start with the basics and work up. Can you ping it by name? If so that shows the DNS and routing are good. Can you telnet to port 80? If so that indicates that the firewalls are playing nicely. If it's an MTU size issue then you can use 'ping -f -l nnnn' to work out what is the maximum size that gets through? Remember the actual packet is 28 bytes bigger than the number you specify. In particular see whether the results are different for hotmail versus other sites that you *can* connect to OK.
