I have just brought an nvidia 6600 and I am trying to hook it up to the TV.

The TV is a Phillips 32" widescreen but it is about 8 years old. The image seems like it is easily good enough for gaming, but i can't get any colour. Is the TV too old or is it a compatability issue or do i need a different cable or what?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hmm.... at a guess - you have the PC set to output NTSC and the TV is a PAL set? Set the PC to PAL and see if that helps.

Ta for the reply

For some reason It doesn't seem to let me change the TV type, but it is set to PAl. I have got the colour working now! The only problem i have is i can't mimick my monitor on the TV, i seem to have to select which ever one i want to use as 'default' and when i hit apply one of the pictures becomes worthless.

Should i not be able to see both screens at the same time, with each screen staying on its own settings?

BTW, I am now typing this on my TV from across the living room. I have to be honest, i can barely read what i am typing but video's and games and stuff will be great I am sure!

I am not sure if your card supports independent resolutions on each display. Set your screen to 800x600 and try again, if that doesn't work - 640x480.

hm, if i try and set my monitor to 800x600 it goes to black screen with a message saying the signal is out of range or something!

I just ran a couple of games through the Tv though and i have to say, i should have done this ages ago...I might even get rid of the monitor and go for the keyboard and mouse in a drawer under the coffee table. and save loads of desk space.

I have found if i lower the resolution to 800 x 600 on the TV the text on everything becomes legible and the games still look good

Make sure you've got S-Video in on your PC as well, I have the same problem if I attempt to connect my PC's TV output to a non S input..

How are you hooking up the card to the PC? I have found that some S-Video cables are just not up to spec. If it is via S-Video, you may want to try a different cable.

I can't get any kind of signal at all via the S-video I am currently using a crappy rca audio cable for a video lead, and it seems to work pretty well but i am sure it could be improved!

I am using the magnifier thing that comes with XP and that works really well too, I am impressed, I have a zoom window at the bottom of mt screen that enlarges what ever i point the mouse at or wherever the cursor is, so I can now see what i am typing ..result!

Does it have two vga/dvi outputs? One of them could be either/or with the tv socket. Try the other vga and you might be able to get both. I assume you have the latest drivers. Also, try

www.nvidia.co.uk/object/advanced_timings.html

There might be other custom programs out there. Does the driver not allow native tv resolutions? (I have an ati).

Well, after a little more 'playing' I managed to completely lose the picture on My tv and up the display on my monitor, requiring a fresh install of windows so i could see my desktop again

So, now i am back to square one

Yes, the card has three outputs but it looks like the DVI? one can't be used at the same time as the regular monitor one , I can use the S-VGA cable while using either of the other two though!
