Am I right in thinking only the Server version of Win2K can route between two network cards?

I'm using 2000 Professional, and my box has two network cars, I want to route between the networks hanging off each card.

thanks muchly

Dont you create a 'bridge' in Network Connections?

Thats how its done in XP, thought 2000 would be similar.

RIP routing? It needs to be installed as it's not selected by default IIRC

I think that Bridging must be XP only.....

Damn this, where's that registry tweak that tells Win2000 Professional it's Server Version instead...... I'm not in the mood to start swapping NICs around...

Feck, these guys seem to think it can't be done

www.comptechdoc.org/os/windows/win2k/win2kroute.html

Current setup

PC1 - Win2K Server
192.168.1.10
|
|
192.168.1.3
PC2 - Win2K Professional
10.0.0.1
|
|
10.0.0.2
Linux Red Hat

Need to route from Server to Redhat.

So far static routes mean
192.168.1.10 can ping 10.0.0.1
and
10.0.0.2 can ping 192.168.1.3

So my gateway settings are correct, just the bastid in the middle won't route.

Linux Box is 50 metres away in the shed (fans too noisy)...
Not enough cable to run another, no spare ports in my switch, no spare NICs, really don't wanna be arsed moving a card over.

Try

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipParameters

Set 'IPEnableRouter' to 1.

Ipconfig /all should show IP routing enabled

Haven't tried this but it might work

www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/w2kprout.html

Set
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpip ParametersIPEnableRouter

to 1

back after a reboot to let you know if it works

Then just stick a route in with a -p flag to the destination host? 2K can certainly route, I've done it in the past.

Gimme a min

Yup, they just decided to remove the checkbox between NT and 2000 (for some reason!)
