Chaps,

A quickie.

Does anyone know of any personal remote back-up system? I am thinking about some kind of thing that will back-up your personal information (documents, MP3's, photos etc) as a background task to a remote server, for safekeeping should you be burgled/burned down/have a nasty HDD crash.

Do such services exist?

Write a batch file to copy the content from one location to another and then schedule a task via Windows to run the batch file however often you want to.

At 2am for example my digital TV content thats been recorded gets pushed off to another machine on the network.

By remote do you mean in another locale or another machine on the network?

Did similar just last month after coming perilously close to losing everything - stupidly had everything including most of my business stuff on one laptop with no backup procedure at all, wife was quite calm until I told her that I might have lost pretty much every picture of our children that I had ever taken .... managed to get everything back in the end but immediately downloaded a programme called Back2Zip from here:

http://free-backup.info/

I now backup to an old spare computer which I have wireless networked, I have it set to compare files every 3 hours and update as neccesary and it just works quietly away in the background. It does not as far I know have the ability to backup to a remote server so if I am burgled or house burns down it is not going to help, but at least I have a backup in case of hard drive failure or someone just nicks laptop whilst out and about. There are remote server solutions with auto backup features but I have not really looked at these. I will just use the above and I think once in a while burn off a data dvd with all piccies etc on and then store that at another location just in case the worst does happen.

Yes

I sell such things

Go to www.sensible.co.uk/networksBackup.htm

Click on the free trial button to try it out for 14 days. You will get 1GB compressed storage.

We mainly sell to businesses but I am sure I can sort something out.

Guys,

Thanks very much for the answers. It was more an idea for a possible business ... maybe one to be consigned to the bin ...
