Never had ANY grief with popups till last weekend. Use Kerio Firewall which has always seemed to keep the cack under control.
Unfortunately LastMinuteBidder and Kerio don't see eye to eye, so I turned it off while Julie and I nipped out.
Now there's all manner of junk appearing (the firewall is back on).
I installed MS AntiSpyware and though that got rid of some crap, the popups continue.
Now I've installed anti-Popup software but despite that the crap continues. I keep adding the sites to the 'block' list but they change one or two digits and get back through.
So if the firewall was stopping it before, what's changed?
I can't find anything with 'add/remove programs' and neither AntiSpyware or Adaware6 are making any difference. The firewall log (or real-time monitor) fails to show anything, although I can see the firewall going active with a reference to Internet Explorer as the popups appear.
How in bu99ery do I get it back to how it was? I assume I'm looking for an application or reference to a site or something, but what and where?

I use the Google Toolbar and it has tons of goodies, one of which is a pop-up blocker.

It also has a spellchecker which is very useful.

I like firefox but i had to un-install it because the text size was always screwed up on the sites - constantly having make it bigger or smaller. Even this site was affected. Its a shame as i quite liked it. Maybe when its a bit more established...

I can recommend the google toolbar though. It stops popups and is handy for searching. I have installed it for my users on the citrix server browser. That said you still need to sweep for spyware etc etc as normal as its not a bullet proof vest (if you know what i mean !?) lol

Aha! I may have fixed it (or part of it)... on the recommendation of a work colleague I installed BulletProof Software's antispyware. Amazingly, this found a load MORE stuff that the MS antispyware and Adaware had missed! However, on the free-download version, the BPS antispyware can't actually amend or delete anything and as I'm too tight to spend any money I thought it was a waste of time. Then I found the list of stuff that BPS had identified (some was in the registry) and manually deleted it. By the time I switched the PC off last night the pop-up blocker had killed 205 pages. In about 4 hours so far tonight, not one popup has appeared, and the popup blocker says '0 pages blocked' !

With Firefox, holding control down and scrolling the mouse wheel can zoom the text for you (if it doesn't work out of the box, there's a setting to make it so in preferences). That alone is worth installing firefox for and makes changing text sizes the easiest thing in the world to do.
