Odd drive name for external USB CD-RW drive
Discussion
Chaps,
A very trivial problem, but not one that I seem to be able to do anything about.
I have a desktop machine, which runs Win2000. This has an external CD-R/RW drive (Iomega affair) plugged into it all the time.
I also have a small USB memory stick, which is occasionally plugged into the machine.
When I first used the USB memory, I renamed it (in Windows Explorer) "Mini USB".
At some stage since then, the computer seems to have confused the name on the memory stick with the name of the external CD drive, and therefore the name of the CD drive as shown in Windows explorer is "Mini USB". It all works just fine, no operational problems, but the name is wrong.
If you right-click on the drive (again, in Windows Explorer), and select "properties", you can see the name in one of the fields, but the background of the field is grey - i.e. you can't change it.
Anyone any ideas on how to change this name?
As a aside, I plugged the CD drive into my lappie to see what happened then. It appears in Windows Explorer as "Audio CD Drive", and this can be changed in properties. So this leads me to suspect that the problem is with the desktop PC, not the drive itself.
Oli.

Aaaaaahhhh, the good old USB Drive Letter saga...
It'd probably be that the CD drive has been assigned the drive letter that you assigned as Mini USB as you put in second.
All USB devices (annoyingly) start from H: IIRC and this will be why.
Try changing the Drive letter by:
Right Click My Computer
Manage
Disk Management
Right Click the Drive
Change Drive Letter
(I think thats it...)

Neil,
Thanks - it worked!
Never been there before ("Manage" in "My Computer" ... )
I ended up having to re-letter both the built-in CD drive as well as the USB one, as once I moved the USB one up to a suitable letter (J) then the internal one took on the label "Mini USB", but once this was moved to I then it was all OK.
Thanks again ...
