Had a flyer through from NTL saying their upping our cable modem speeds to 10Mb... and knocking down the price

I had a feeling the other night that they were trialling it... roughly 800kbytes/sec downloads... not too shabby at all.

I just wish they'd up our upload speeds... 256K is not enough any more

Hiya Matt

Just to cheer you up about your broadband, in South Africa we get a 3 gig per MONTH cap, we have 1 megabit d/l speeds and something like 128 or 256 upload (all theoretical of course), costs us equivalent of 50 pounds per month, mine comes without nntp access, and the "modem" we have to use costs roughly 250 pounds. The other option is to go with the monopoly Telkom telecomms provider, pay the same and get 512 d/l speeds max. Same cap too. So, always look on the bright side of life, la la, la la la la la la. ;-)

Ouch !! This is 10mbit down, 256kbit up, with a 75Gb/month cap... nntp access (though very slow) for £35.99 a month, so live-able... If I wanted 1mb/256k then I'd be paying £15.99/mo

I currently have 10Mbps down, 512k up. On NTL.

They upgraded their 3Mbps customers last week. For free.

Brilliant... I haven't tested it... I just presumed they were still only offering 256 up... I'll have to try it out when I VPN home from work tomorrow
