Mods, I know this is in the wrong forum but could you please leave it here for the time being - cheers.

I've been handed a lap top which runs on windows 98 but it's set up in Greek.

Can anyone give me a step buy step guide (or diecrt me to one on the net) so I can change the settings to English.

Cheers.

I think you need to buy an English version of Windows.

Really? I thought it was a world wide package that the language settings can be changed?

I don't know for sure because I've only dabbled briefly in non-English windows. As far as I remember, there are multi-language extensions but you can also buy a single-language version of windows that is non-english. If you have a common or garden domestic PC that is in Greek I would expect it to be a single language version. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I would expect.

In Conrol Panel (you should be able to recognise the logos even if you cant read the greek...) go to the regional settings menu which is a globe icon.

I am not running 98 and can't remember how exactly it goes from there, but you should see a button that says Change on it in Greek!!
You will know if it's the right one because a load of languages will pop up. You just need the English (United Kingdom) selection.
If any popup boxes come up, select Yes, which is the left hand button

Hopefully that should be fine.. but will require a restart.

Dave.

Edit: After a bit of research... seems you might actually have to format and reinstall Windows in English after all... But give the above a try!

Just tried changing my laptop to Greek in the regional and language section of control panel and it had no effect other than to bugger up the keyboard settings. The menus and desktop icons were all still in English. I am running XP though. As has been said I think you will need to get hold of an English Windows CD and install the English version. Do you have another PC that came with an English Windows CD? Alternatively you could learn Greek
