I was surfing the net earlier and my browser died and I cannot get it back.
I'm running Win2000 with ie6. When I click on the iexplorer icon I get a dialog window that appears with the title IEXPLORE.EXE - application error.

Inside the window it says - The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

Luckily enough I had firefox on a CD that I could install onto my PC, otherwise I wouldn't be able to post this. I did install Netscape Navigator that I had hanging around as well, but that went belly up also.

Any ideas.

Cheers.

Does it log anything in your event viewer when it crashes?

Maybe try reinstalling the service pack?

Just go to Firefox. Seriously. No more pop-ups, pop-unders and a generally much safer experience - no ActiveX controls for instance. Folks will argue that Firefox has had its fair share and more of security issues, and that I agree with, but there's quantity versus quality to be considered - the IE ones generally are more lethal than the Firefox ones. Plus there's the joys of tabbed browsing, which when used in moderation makes for a pleasant desktop experience.

Firefox is nice, but i had grief with text and formatting on websites. If you want to stick to IE try removing IE, rebooting and reinstalling.

I tried installing this over the top but to no avail. The weird thing now is, I can't uninstall internet explorer as it seems to have disapperared from the Add/Remove Programs list within the Control Panel.

Yep IE's a bitch for that, you basically can't reinstall it. Bummer eh?
