We're moving away from our leased line and own mail server to ADSL and an external server.

I've set up the Exchange POP connector on our server to get the mail off the remote server and put the mail in the right exchange server user account. This works OK.

Is it possible to continue to send mail from our own exchnage server through the external SMTP server instead of doing it directly from the mail client?

Reason being, I want to keep the mail settings the same internally, and also this will keep the speed on the client machine the same. Basically, I want to send the mail to our own server, then have it send it on to the external SMTP server in it's own time.

Is this possible?

Its already set to do it from your previous config.

BTW make sure the pop connector is setup correctly and has the patches to stop it delivering bulk NDRs and mail to visible To lists. There has just been a reference to these on The Register

Ah, so I don't need to specify an external SMTP server. I've just thought that I might need to update the DNS servers for it to work.

Thanks

Yup

SMTP virtual server properties / Delivery then Advanced Delivery.

Smart Host is what you need to set.
