Computers not dancers.I'm looking for one at the weekend in pc world, I have around £600 budget and I have found 2 that I like one is a packard bell-intel pentium m processor725a 1.6ghzwww.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/400205 and the other one is this .www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/935200
The advent is higher spec and lower price but I have never heard of them and my two pc's are packard bell and are very reliable.
I know nothing about computers and would appreciate any help. cheers Dougie:d

I'd go for the advent, on spec and reputation, plus it looks like a better designed chassis.

I think you might have the only two Packard Bells that haven't broken.

Dell, ibm (lenovo) and toshiba make decent lapdancers.
IMHO 99% of the lappys in pc world are seriously over priced...

I've just ordered a dell as the last one I had was very good and is still running fine after 6 years.

Try typing laptop in the search field of this site... www.hotukdeals.com/

There's an acer Ferrari one in Evo this month in a carbon fibre case with a ferr ari badge on it but it's over £1000, so out of my budget. Dell are mail order only over here and I like to see things before I buy them, thanks anyway Ernest.

Is advent a good name then?(i've never heard of them I thought it was pc worlds own brand or something).

Thanks for all your help and if you need any advice on haircuts....Err I'd ask someone else if I was you.

I wouldn't go for anything that is made by or purely for PC World which the Packard Bell is (not sure about the Advent). With them you are stuck with them repairing it when it goes wrong.
I just bought my Daughter an Acer for £540 with better specs than the ones you describe.

try kellkoo or equivalents may give you a better choice, and better spec for your cash.

Would personally consider toshiba or ibm tend to be of better quality (tougher).

External one? usually compact enough for travel and if you change, should still work with your new one.

I just bought a HP Compaq nx6110 from Insight for £500-odd ex VAT as I needed one PDQ and didn't have time to wait for Dell's lead-time. Looks reasonable, albeit uninspiring, and will do for the time being.
