Hi all,

Anyone know much about Sky recievers?

Mine has started freezing up occasionally..... I often get pixellization for a few seconds, but now pictures have started freezing solid, audio continues fine, but pictures don't change.

Only way to free things up is to change to another channel, and change back.

Signal strength and signal quality on the setup screen both show around 2/3rds of the bar (they have always been at this level - right from install)

Any ideas? Or is a new digibox in order, and if so, where do I get one from without breaking the bank!!!

I had this on our box a few years ago. We then started losing half the channels and the rest were intermittent. In the end I called Sky out, paid a flat £30 fee (I think it was) and they simply fixed it. They actually fitted a new dish, but I think that was because it was less effort for the fitter than going right up to the chimney on the top of the house via a flat roof, which was where the existing dish was.

My understanding is that if I call SKy out, I am likely to end up with a bill rather larger than £30.

I decided not to take out their monthly equipment protection charge (or should that be racket?!) a few years ago..... so I guess I have already saved the cost of a replacement reciever, but want to explore all options of getting mine working before parting with any cash!!

I joined Sky and the box played up within two weeks... trouble was I got it installed by a local supplier, and so Sky wanted about £80 to come out and fix it...

Thankfully the man who installed it came back off holiday and sorted it out for me.

It's free if you are within the first yeaar, then Sky have a flat callout fee of £60. If they can't fix it you get new kit.

Also take a look at www.satcure.co.uk as there's loads of useful info and tips on fixing things like this.

I'm sure you've tried it but, when my Sony box freezes I turn it off, unplug it for a few secs then turn it back on and all is well again. It seems they need a reboot every now and again.
Before it freezes it usually starts getting pixelated and loses some of its channel info, so I know when its time for a reboot.
