help: windows stuck in "safe mode"

My computer's been acting up lately. Now everything on the screen is all big and wierd looking. I think windows is in "safe mode." Usually you just restart it and it goes back to normal, but that is not working. It must have started when someone else was on it because it wasn't like this the last time I used it. I didn't see what happened, but I have done the safe mode thing before, and it's never done this.
Any thoughts?

Press F8 as it boots and select 'normal' Might take you a few goes to catch it! If that doesn't work, try last known good configuration from the same F8 menu.

Does it say Safe Mode on each of the corners of the visible screen? If not it's not a Safe Mode issue. Check "screen resolution" in Display Settings - maybe someone / some program just set it at 800x600 when its previously been set at a higher resolution

Fixed.
It didn't say safe mode on the screen. I changed the resolution and the color, and that displayed the internet pages correctly, but the desktop icons were still all fuzzy. Then I restarted it and did the F8 thing, did not see the "safe mode" "normal mode" menu, but some other stuff talking about checking for viruses.
Whatever it was, it's now back to normal on that last restart.
