Browser, PC or ISP problem?

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition with Firefoz as my browser on BT Broadband

More often than not, if I enter a new address in the browser window and press enter, the browser hangs for about 20 secs then shows an error window with the message such as "pistonheads.com could not be found. Please check name and try again."

If I press enter again the website is found immediately. It's driving me mad.
Anyone know what the problem might be?

Sounds like slow DNS response, Possibly BT internet have cleared their DNS caches following the Xmas rush.

If so, it should sort it self out soon.

It's taken me ages to resolve this.

The answer appears to be Zone Alarm.

When I installed their latest update the problem has disappeared at long last.
