Them recovery CDs usually wipe things... if you are talking about the same kind of thing as I think you are.

Have you tried making sure the iTunes software is totally uninstalled (including it's folder in Program Files) then restart your computer, and then reinstall the latest version from Apple online?
Also if the recovery has wiped off certain patches?? This could have been a common problem, so running a full Windows Update could help.. Other than that, I'm sure an iPro will be along to help soon

Dave.

Seconded - you need to ensure itunes is removed in its entirity. Open task manager and check to see if itunes helper is listed as one of the running processes. If so you need to stop it - go into msconfig and find its entry and untick the box and restart. You may also need to download a registry cleaner - I use crapcleaner (google ccleaner). After purging the machine of all traces try the install procedure again. If this fails it may be a problem with a corrupt dll (My dad's machine recently suffered the fairly common msvcrt.dll problem - ok its was common with win98 due to microsoftware released in 99 unfortunately Microsoft didn't realise people would try old software on XP as well so ) right click my computer and select manage. Check the logs to see if there is a problem with a specific dll - google the dll name and find further instructions.

only use non drm mp3's and so itunes is out of the question. Recall they only allowed for one pc, ie the one that you have formatted by using recovery discs - best used as a frisbee or coaster as they really mess up anything that was installed since their use.

maybe a bit about the firewall and anti virus software that you are using would help, assuming you use anything like it and if not get some

check out agnitum firewall and nod32 anti virus, also get prevx home anti intrusion software - blocks stuff trying to install itself, lavasoft ad-aware is good spyware killer

try making a 20 Gb boot partition, have all your install files ready and then disconnect from the net, only re-connect when everything installed and then u can spend a few hours updating stuff
