I need to find a product to monitor 35-40 users on a network and provide advert free reports of usage with the time SPENT on the web. My budget is also less than £1000.

Cyfin meets the budget but doesn't do time spent on web only a gues of download which is useless.

Content Keeper does it all but is too expensive with the hardware requirements.

Does anyone have any thoughts of good products.

I would like to run it on an existing e-mail server, integration with active directory would be useful and automatic e-mails ing to group dept heads of reports vital.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

ISA Server is MS's all in one offering, you just run a standard reporting tool over it.

Having just had a poke around.

ISA Server + GFI Web Monitor is £1300 and about the closest to what you want.

It can be done purely with open source software on Linux (therefore entirely free) but it will probably be a nightmare to setup as there is nothing that just installs all in one.

I've done this for a few of our clients using Squid and a couple of log analysis programs. Infact you can get squid to output it's logs in standard apache format and use any standard web server log tools, but the main two I've been using are Webalizer and Squint. The end result is a secure web page on the companies intranet with various graphs breaking things down by hourly/daily/weekly bandwith, total user time, minutes of access per hour per hour of the day for each user etc. It ties into the AD too.

Cost of the software is zero, just my time in setting it up wich TBH I didnt bill for entirely cause we're doing a monthly thing.

we currently run squid its the reporting which is a pain.

I don't have time to go in and get reports etc etc I just want something which integrates with active directory so a report is scheduled for say the sales group which then automatically e-mails to the sales director so they onlt see there staff etc. Cyfin does it all the only thing it doesn't do is say how long they have been browsing for. which then becomes quite meaingless.

How come you have to go in and get the reports? I've had it both ways, emailing out automaticaly and passworded intranet access and had no problems. The reports update every night.

Squint is particularly good - you get a bar of all the 1/2 hours in the day for each user, colour coded to show how many minutes out of each hour the user has spent online. From there you can drill down to which pages were accessed.

Sounds like you just need it setting up properly.
