I need to buy about 15 metres of the stuff, just want to know if I need to pay much attention the letters (such as RJ45), or if it's quite generic stuff.

Thanks

You need stranded if it's for making a flylead, or solid conductor for installing in a building. That's about it really. RJ45 refers to the connector, not the cable.

Anything you buy in a bubble pack from the thieves at PC World, or the like, will be fine. For a single 15 meter piece, it isn't worth setting up to make your own.

I've had good service from these people; www.videkonline.co.uk/home.asp

Do fifteen metre straight and X-over off the shelf for about £15.00

I assume this is fine for connecting my laptop to my pc?

Thanks again

Yours and the one I posted will both work. Yes, you need X-over for going between two network cards.
