Hi,

I have the 4gb nano and am currently updating all the tunes on it.

I have over 2000 in my iTunes libary and have created an "my ipod" playlist that automatically updates whatever I drag and drop into that playlist onto the ipod. All great.

BUT.

The bar at the bottom of the ipod screen states that I have 3.66GB used and 88.8 MB "free" space on the ipod, so, why when I tey to add the extra 20 tunes or so to use up the remaining 88mb does it say that its full???

Very strange and I have a new foo fighters album that I want to put on , and can't pick anything to kick out.

All help appreciated.

Thanks.
Greg

The playlist itself takes up memory. Your iPod may have 88mb spare but this playlist will require some memory to function. Delete all the playlists and you can get the ipod full to within 1mb.

The "my tunes" is the only playlist on it. I have deleted the "on the go" one. Will that 1 play list really "waste" 88mb?

Can you format the pod then? Would that ferr up some space to then re load the playlist with all the tunes I wanmt on it?

Thanks again.

Greg

ps. Fancy meeting you here Nathan?? Did you get the brake duct fixed easily?

Uh its already formatted. Formating takes space up, 4gb unformated is 3,8gb or whatever formated.

Theres also some lost to how 'k' is worked out, a real 'kilobyte' is 1024 bytes, a hard drive K is 1000 bytes.

Some of that space will be taked up with playlists and other files.

Also the partition format on the drive (which is probably FAT?) will have allocation units, the smallest blocks a file can take, if its 4k a 1k file takes 4k, but only 'counts' as 1k when adding up usage.

Many reasons why things dont add up..

I "recorded" all my cd's into iTunes at 196bps to get near cd quality which is nice as at the time I had a 60gb ipod. Now I have limited space on the nano, I wish I had saved them all at 128bps or so. They are about 4-8mb each as indicated in the "size" column in iTunes, thats why I find it odd that I can't put another 15 or so onto it if its indicating 88mb free.

If you have space on your hard-drive why don't you convert down to 128?
