http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Yamaha-YSP-1000-Digital-So

or similar. WOndering how it performs when compared to a traditional 5.1 setup. Like the idea, just not sure if any good !

Not tried one myself but I remeber reading a couple of reviews when they first came out. Apparently they're not all that. Not very convincing and difficult so set up in most roomes. IIRC the general verdict was that they're the best single box solution available by a long way, but not as good as well positioned proper speakers.

No idea, but they're nearly £200 cheaper in Costco

For what they are, they are alright, ultimately compromised because its frequency manipulation rather than pukka sounders in the right place.

In limited space setups or odd room shapes though they are a decent compromise.

Right then, scratch that. Next question.. anyone on here have a Bose Acoustimass setup at home? Reason for all this we're most likely moving & at current house cinema setup in conservatory were size wasnt an issue.. new place (if all goes through) will be in dining room & more out of sight the better (and more missus friendly)

I wouldn't touch Bose personally, they're all marketing and no substance. If i was looking for a discreet compromise set-up i'd probably go KEF KIT100 see here:-

mmm...Bose are OK but you can get a lot better for the money - just buy a copy of Home Cinema Choice etc or read the online reviews - some Mission NXT based sat/sub combo with a decent amp will do a much better all round job for cheaper IMO

exactly - for small rooms, bedrooms ...even cars then Bose is a great solution....its just expensive for what you get for your money..more 'lifestyle' orientate like B&O ....you rarely see them reviewed in the high end hi-fi mags - they are good at what they do but if you have a bit more room and look into what you want there are some other great solutions out there.....

If it's discreet you want whilst retaining quality I reckon you can do worse than the KEF KHT package, should be able to pick it up for about £500-600.

agreed - the KEFs are probably the best out there for the money - the new Mission NXTs look good (I have the old ones) but they are still a bit pricey

Mordaunt Short Genies are better than both the Kef mini-eggs and full size eggs in my opinion. A little pricier granted, but worth it.

I was looking at getting B&W MT's, but at £900, they're a bit expensive. I was told that the KEF eggs were still the daddy, it's just that they've been on the market for that long, the magazines have grown bored so the reviews have tailed off.

I'd have the KEF eggs.

Kef eggs and the new Jamo stuff are great.

Just put Jamo in to our lounge and the deffinition is amazing, although wife won't let me take the covers off them to improve it again.

Should have set them up without the covers in the first place. I've already had the conversation

"Do those speakers come with covers?"

"No".

"what are those holes for then" (she ain't stupid)

"for the optional covers"....
