My System Tray, Win XP Pro used to display an icon when new mail arrived via Outlook Express. Over the past week this icon has not been popping up and I have noticed that it is no longer listed under Current Items in the Taskbar 'Properties' 'Customize' dialog box. It is listed under Past Items but I can't get it to activate. Is there a way to get this icon back in the Current Items list?

Strange...

In that Properties>Customise menu, is it set to 'Hide when Inactive'?

If so all should be well... Hmm i'll do a spot of 'research' now anwyay!

I'm sure it's because it has somehow slipped into Past Items.

It should be in past items unless you do have new email...

Same for me over here...

So when you do receive email it doesn't show up at all? Not even if you click the arrow thingy on the taskbar to extend the icon list?

Correct. It's not there, not even behind the arrow. The only place I can find it is in the list of Past Items in Taskbar, Properties, Customize. It used to be in the Current Items list set as 'Hide when inactive'

Well that is a really weird problem...

Maybe you could try reinstalling Oulook Express
In the Add-Remove Programs part in Control Panel, just click the Windows Components tab. Uncheck Outlook, then apply and OK
Then go back and re-check it, and it will reinstall...

BACKUP ALL YOUR VALUABLE FILES FROM OUTLOOK FIRST
WIN CD IS NEEDED

Other than that I have no idea to be honest and can't find any problems online similar?!

Any other program and it would be no bother. With OE I've never managed to get my Inbox and Contacts list back after a reinstall. I had wondered about doing a System Restore, it may revert what ever caused the change to happen.

Hey tvrBob, I've used this utility to fix Taskbar problems several times and what you want to do is included without the $5.00 license fee. It's called "XP Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! 1.0"
.

Problem appears to be fixed now.

I set the item to 'always show' and restarted the PC. This forced it back into operation. I now have it as 'hide when inactive' and I'll watch it to see what it does next.

Thank you all for your advice.
