Recently my install of photoshop has died for no apparent reason. It will now go through the motions of opening, splash screen is displayed and cycles through all the components/plugins etc then just when you expect the splash screen to disappear and it be ready to use the whole lot (splash screen & photoshop window) disappears with no warning.

I've tried uninstalling and reloading it but the problem still remains. The only thing I can think I have done recently is changed monitors - could this be causing the problem??

Check your hard disks for photoshop temp (tmp) files.
Delete these and try opening photoshop again.

It also would be an idea to plug in your old monitor again to rule this out.
(make sure you set the display setting to a generic super vga mode first.
Otherwise the display drivers for two different monitors will conflict)

It's the classic Photoshop settings issue. It stores lots of settings in the Documents and Settings tree (various places, do a google to find the exact directories). You change something (with me it was dual monitor support, and then Photoshop either freezes after the splash screen or just dies.

Oh and re-installing doesn't work as it ALWAYS keeps the settings, even the duff ones.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll give them a go. Infortunately I don't have the old monitor so I can't test with that...

Shady - I'd prefer to call it the "extended trial" version so its possible the serial has expired.

If I can't resurrect it resurrect it, I'll download the GIMP and give that a try!
