Once you've shortlisted a few I would advise you call up their customer service call centre at a busy time of day and see which answers first.

I use Wanadoo, they seem fine, I found that the customer service from BT Openworld and Virgin ( Iv'e used both in the past ) was dire. Although that may have changed.

Tiscali seem to be very good, i've recently joined with them. Line activation was only 10 days and 2mb unlimited line with an unlimited anytime local and national call package bundle at only £19.99 is very good value imo.

Id steer away from Wanadoo, my dad is using them and he was having an email problem one night which was clearly a fault at there end.
I phoned them up to tell them what to do (trying not to be too arogant!!) and after 20mins of them trying to get me to try the basics (that i'd already tried on the client!!), they came up with this fantastic suggestion..... "you've exceeded the level provided by phone support, you'll need to use email support". ok then, i ask her if shes been listening to me for the past 20mins, "yes" she replies. in the most quizzical manner i can i ask "so why have i called?" "you cant send email" - "CHRIST FFS! I CANT SEND THE DAMN EMAIL"!!! i promptly hung up!

needless to say he is moving over to tiscali now

Steer clear from BT, who were once banned from using the words "fast" and "reliable" in their advertising.

Took me 5 minutes to download a 3 meg email yesterday (1 meg connection). Their mailservers have always been painfully slow.
