Need some help - going to install a 4 port router D-link at new house (formally used as a ntl router with cable modem) - its going to be used with an adsl Zyxel modem which has an ethernet port as the output…. So its sort of a 1 port adsl router…

If I plug the D-link input into the Zyxel output is it going to work ok for sharing the internet access ? Or will I get a conflict or need to configure something etc.

Should be fine, as long as something on the network is dishing out IP addresses to your PCs or you're setting them manually.

What about if they both think they are routers ? And what about ip address allocation ? 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 ok ?

Those IPs are ok.

You'll actually be effectively using the D-link as a hub rather than a router, so no problems there; just don't plug the phone line into it and it won't have anywhere to "route" to...

D-link has no socket for phone line - its purely rj45 used for cable modem/dsl normally

1 port in 4 ports out

In which case its probably a hub rather than a router anyway?

In fact, you're not changing much at all, all you're effectively doing is swapping a cable modem for an adsl modem.
The fact that there's a 4-port hub sat between your PC and the modem is a bonus as it means you can plug 4 PCs into it rather than just one.

well not to confuse the names... but yeah basically swapping cable modem for adsl modem.. provided people here think it will work I give it a try... will save £40 on an adsl router/wireless combined.

That makes sense now, just been explained to me at work... using the WAN port makes it a router.. using one of the 4 switch ports just makes it a switch and wireless access point - exactly what I need :-)
