Is it possible to put two ADSL modems on one line. Say one in the office and another in a TV/ Play room?
I want 2 computers in the same house to use b.band on one line in 2 rooms, without wireless.

They are too far apart really to do this. The BT cables are in the walls.

No, I tried it and it doesn't work.

Should be possible as long as only one connects to the internet at a time. But if you have two puters needing net access over a broadband connection, it makes sense to network them. Is wireless ruled out because it doesn't work, or for some other reason?

It is a barn conversion, and I am afraid the signal won't pass through the thick walls.

Worth giving wireless a try, if it's marginal you can always add a relay to extend the range. If it's a total no-hoper, you could string a CAT5 ethernet cable (same size as a phone line) to the far PC. If new cables are completely out of the question then at a pinch you could network them (veeery slooowly) using a serial connection over the mains and I seem to remember that BT had a product that did rather naff connection sharing over a phone line. But conventional networking technology would be a far better bet, either wireless or ethernet.

Wasn't there a review on "the register" recently about lan over mains cable recently?

This may be your solution,

There's nothing to stop you getting wireless - if you have problems with signal, then you can get 'reapeaters' which pick up the weak signal and amplify it. Typically one repeater extends the range of the wireless router to 250% of original.

Alternatively, if you want to network but want to avoid cabling, mutek works well using your house's ring main as a cabling system:
