MSN Messenger on my PC has suddenly stopped working, and clicking 'troubleshoot' it says there is a problem with the default gateway; "Your gateway appears to be offline". Online support is useless, and doesn't recognise the error code

So, what have I done to it? Anyone got any ideas on a fix?

Cheers

Is your internet connection working generally?

Your default gateway should be your router (e.g. 192.168.0.1) - try pinging it first, then log into it and see if there are any problems in the router configuration.

Internet connection is working fine, all browsers work, as does Outlook Express, Media players etc.

Fraid I'm a bit when it comes to PC stuff. Haven't got a router yet, internet just runs through an ADSL Modem attached to a PC USB port.

it has just started working. OK, I opened Outlook Express to check it was working, and it told me I was offline (when I was online) and did I want to connect to the internet. Pressed 'connect' and it checked the emails. Then tried MSN again and it worked

So what the hill would make it do that? Is MSN trying to connect via a different 'port' and doesn't recognise as being online?

my point is that msn should use your internet connection settings, so if your internet settings are OK, then you don't need to worry about your default gateway etc.

This is unless there has been a change on your gateway (a router) which is now blocking MSN - if you are at work this is possibly what has happened.
