For those who fancy the bleeding edge.

I'm finding it a bit annoying TBH, but I set up IE6 for me and find it annying on any machine other than my own anyway.

So here's the link, for the brave.

YMMV

be careful as you can't uninstall it completely if you decide you don't like it

I didn't like it and un-installed it, IE6 and the rest of my systems appear none the worse.

Been using it since launch - they've fixed the box model bug and most things appear to work OK. I did read though that some box model fixes may break your css in IE7 though.

I've not had any problems yet anyway. FF is my usual browser, this is just for testing.

Didn't do that when I installed it. It did contact MS to check that I was using a genuine copy of Windows, but I've got no problem with that.

remind me, the box model bug is where IE renders padding and margins in addition to the specified width instead of inside it?

Pleeeease don't tell me I'm going to have to revisit all my sites to get them to display in IE7 having had to hack around my CSS code to get them to look the same in IE6/every proper browser...

How about the alpha transparency on .png files being displayed properly?

You might want to use IE on an intranet or maybe just access local html files.

The correct way is to make the box bigger, IE makes the box smaller as it includes margins in the overall dimensions.

I think thats the right way around, only been using CSS for about 2 weeks and its annoying me already...

Because my application uses IE as a rendering control but is only intranet based. Contrary to popular belief, not every PC is connected to the internet, nor do their owners wish them to be so due to potential security risks. This is typical of wooly minded spotty oik thinking that tends to be the cause of most IT problems nowadays. The geeks fail to see the big picture and make the (invalid) assumption that everyone uses their computers in the same way as they do.

Tell me about it, some of the shit I've had to go through and some of the hacks in my style sheets don't even make sense to me now let alone when I started using CSS to design sites.

This is why IE7 scares me a bit, I just hope it renders things the same as firefox et al so I don't need to make any changes.

They've still spelt centre wrong.
Increasing text size makes stuff go off the edge of the screen instead of wrapping it (as FF does).

Quick tabs is cool though.

Blimey! Microsoft are very confident with IE7 if they are releasing a Beta 2 for the general public!!

What does everyone think of it so far?

So far so good. Seems a little slower than IE6 to render a page, but hopefully that's just debug code that will be removed before release.

It does seem to be catching out a few sites that had bodged a CSS fix for the IE6 box problem, though.

@funky-nige - when you say 'they've still spelt centre wrong', what do you mean? If you mean the CSS attribute value, then that's not an IE issue, that's a W3C (I think) issue, isn't it? Or am I missing your point?

Umm, I'm not really sure what CSS attribute values are...

I set IE to a location of United Kingdom, but the spelling of favourite centre comes out as American. I've moaned to MS and they've responded asking me which website I was visiting at the time for some reason, I'll get back to them later.
