Outlook email attachments get converted to .dat files?
Discussion
Can anyone explain what is happening here?
I am using Outlook 2003 over a mobile phone connection. It has happened this week, once when sending a Word .doc, andother sending a PowerPoint .ppt, that the email recipient gets them as a .dat file??????? Funnier thing is, in the case of the .doc I sent it to several people and only one reported this problem - the others got it OK.
Sometimes I am sending some pretty important and urgent files through - so what is going on here? Is it more to do with the recipient's set up rather than mine?
Grateful if anyone can explain - thanks in advance,
Bryan

Its not been reported that it is winmail.dat they are getting - must check that. Also, I send in HTML format rather than Rich Text - which Microsoft talks about there.
What is weird is that this has happening only when sending from my laptop, but not from my desktop. One recipient has told me they use AOL's own email software if that provides any further useful clues?

From what I have read this does provide some clues. It looks like you can get these issues with different mail clients. If its your own laptop (ie not a corporate one) then you should make sure you have the latest patches/service packs for office installed, in case its an issue thats been fixed. You should send your messages as just plain text and see if that makes a difference.
hope that helps.
