Just a quick one,

Does anyone know how much a forum template costs? Also where I could get one?

Its just for a small community based site but would need a good photo gallery.

Any Help...

If you email Ted, he may be able to franchise you his efforts - all PH stuff is hand coded as far as I know.

Am I being stupid....

Why are they all free? Do I just need to host them?

You'll find oodles of free programs out there. The php type community just help eachother out and produce some cool software.

phpbb is ace, really simple to set up

If you want a Hosting / Forums solution rolled into one, and fancy doing so with a PH'r, just click the Banner in the top of this forum.

Single click install for phpBB 2.0.19 (latest version) with easy to use hosting, from £33 per year!

phpBB is free and is the best forum software in my opinion. Lots and lots of hosting companies do a single click install, which helps the process along no end. You can then download "themes" for your forum, that you effectly copy the files and then use the Admin tool to select what theme you want. You can also modify the themes, so if you find a nice layout in blue, but you want it in red, no problemo!

Thanks JamieB, I already have hosting sorted.

With regards to the template - what do I do? Shall I just download the software? Whats the first step.

Thanks in advance

Ideally you want to download it TO your hosting, that way the permissions are all sorted already.

You could ask your host to untar the latest version of PHPbb into your hosting account.

If they wont, then you will have to download the Latest version

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ph

then unzip it locally, and manually upload all the files.

You might need to chmod some of the files (check the INSTALL/README files for instructions)

Enjoy

You will find that about 90% of PHP coding is all open source or some kind of free version of the code.. We're nice like that unlike ASP! (Then again i dont look for many ASP things) lol
