I've made a few modest websites for friends and clients without undue problems. Create pages, save, upload, check on t'Internet. Bish bosh.

A client wants his site revamped and I decided to make a test page so he can see the new style online before I do too much. I made a new background called test.htm so I could send him a link.

So I upload it to the relevant webspace, then open Firefox and type in www.(domain)/test.htm

But all I see is the current index (home) page. In fact I can type in www.(domain)/bollox.htm and I still only see the homepage.

What the heck is going on please?!

NB Hitting Refresh makes no difference.

First guess would be that you haven't actually put test.htm into the right place, or have missnamed it, (case sensitive) and as /anyoldbollox.htm redirects, that you have a custom 404 page that directs users to your home page.

Checked - yes, it's in the right place.

Not mis-named.

If I type it wrong, I get a real 404; I certainly didn't make a custom 404 page as Ive never heard of one before

It could be NTL Web Cache, or it could be a spelling / case issue.

If you mail me the link you're trying, I will check it out for you..

Maybe you accidentally uploaded a copy of the old file by mistake?

Unless maybe the custom 404 takes you back to the homepage?

Jamie has come up with an idea but I can't get my head round it tonight; I'll try again tomorrow!

Thats because NTL like to cache their pages (and DNS) to save pennies
