I am doing desktop support at the moment, and i get a call from a manager in my building..

User : "My laptop is completely screwed up"
Me: "Whats happening?"
User : I am getting loads of 'plus' signs appearing in the address bar when i open outlook. And if i open word I get lots of 'plus' signs appearing too"

Me: "Is your 'plus' key stuck down?"

User: "No, I am not a complete idiot! Can you come and take a look at it?"

Me: Be right there...

I get to her desk and she has a crowd of co-workers around her gawping in awe at the magical plus signs appearing on her screen...
I look at her mouse hand...cordless mouse....

Me: "Do You have a cordless keyboard that goes with that mouse?"

User: "well, yes, but i am not using it today, it is under that stack of paper....."

Now that's the beauty of our 1st line team. The call would get logged and they'll then ignore it for the next 5 weeks.

Oh well at least it was an easy stat

I had a load of users laugh at me today when I asked her to turn it off and on again, the IT crowd has got a lot to answer for!

H,

You must be in the same building as me - as someone just like that works with me

Pure and utter class.

Only two industries call their customers "users". One is computing.

My ex Boss was the biggest computer numpty

"Why am I overwriting all my text"
"The numbers on the RHS aren't working"

Wouldn't mind but he had the top of the range laptop from Dell as well which he then plugged in a normal keyboard.

Or how about when there is no phone number, and everything is done via email?

Of course, in these incidences, one is compelled to confide in a colleague, or at the very worst, get up and walk over to IT

How about:

"Could you send me a hand written letter describing your problem in full (appropriate schematic diagrams optional) and post it off to the following address............................."

Doziest one I came across was a secratary who complained she could print properly on a sheet of labels. She just wasn't putting the blank sheets into the tray square.
