I have a bit of a rush job on to prepare some data for more work. So that the folks who do work after me can follow it I need to delete the columns of data, leaving only the total but you guessed it, when I do that al I get is the REF error in the cell because I have deleted source data. I have truied just copying and pasting out the colums I downat but get the same result.

Does anyone know how to freeze the cell values?

aye,

instead of usual paste, go to the edit ---> paste special

and you should see a panel of radio buttons appear, click the one that says values.

It will just paste the values.

If you want the formatting as well, repeat the above but click the values and formats radio button.

There are formulas which do this, but to suit your need the best way is probably to insert a new sheet, then put a summary in referencing those cells you want them to look at. That way you still have your calculations and have plenty of white space to put helpful comments in!

just re-read the post.

does the source data ever change? i.e. the totals will change, so you still need the calculations?

if it does you can hide the columns from the users view.

highlight the columns you want to hide
right click mouse
select hide

A dirty way is to just open a new sheet, copy the old and do a paste special with values showing. There are other methods e.g writing a forumla that ignores the missing data.

It is a one off problem, the numbers won't chnage once I have pasted them out. It is just that there are 60 odd soiurce columns and I need just the 7 or 8 total scores. Many Thanks, amongst those ideas I will no doubt crack it.
