anyone a redhat enterprise specialist?
Discussion
So you're effectively going from four CPU's to eight CPU's.... ES claims to supprt two processors so on the face of it I'd have to err on the 'no' side. I guess what you're asking is is there a real limit, or will it just work anyway? You may allready have the answer, since two dual core processors should show as four CPU's; so if you cat /proc/cpuinfo on your ES box and it only shows two then there's your answer... If there is a real limit it's likley to just be in the supplied kernel so if you feel confident to change that you might be able to do it that way. You may not get much love from redhat support if you do this though?
ps: I am in no way shape or form a redhat ES specialist

It's just like Windows advanced vs datacentre editions in the restrictions, allthough TBH I don't really know what the answer would be there either. Probably broadly the same, i.e. an upgrade install might work, or might leave you in a world of woe. It probably depends what application you're running. OK I'l shut up now and leave it to the floor since I clearly can't help you
I take it you haven't got current redhat support? Maybe if you speak to a salesperson they'l get an answer for you? If you get no real answer here there are plenty of more linux/redhat centred forums out there.. good luck.
