does anyone know how to disable the apostrophe keyboard shortcut that turns on 'find as you type'? its soooooo annnoying! when using webmail i cant use any words with an apostrophe in as it just activates this feature and it interrupts my typing. anyone able to cast any light on its easy deactivation? no amount of googlage will give me the answer.
TIA

That's a bit odd. Does it do it on PH for you when you are typing a post. For me if I'm on a standard webpage it brings up the search, but if typing into a textbox like on here it does not. I wonder if it is more to do with the way the page is coded for the webmail rather than a problem firefox itself, perhaps it is not identifying itself properly to the broweser. Doesn't really help you any though so sorry.

type about:config into the url bar

look for accessibility.typeaheadfind, check that it reads FALSE, if it doesn't double click it until it does. If it's still an irritation find all files in your installation subdirectories that match *typeaheadfind*, and delete those files.

Tools->Options->Advanced->General
Deselect the 'begin searching as you type' thingy.

cheers for the replies guys. funnily enought the findaheadasyoutype thingy is deselected in options - i think that the more complex route in this thread seems the way to go. its wierd though, it only does it on one site and one one machine - the other doesnt have the problem at all. ill give the suggestion given a go and report back!
thanks again
