Update it with everything there (Express)

it will install a Spyware program iirc that MS give away FOC.

Enjoy.

I think the MS allsort, is pretty good, given that it's free. Officially it's called Microsoft Antispyware, but it's icon resembles one of Bertie Basset's finest! I'm not sure if that's a part of the standard MS update stuff, but it's woth having, and isn't too "heavy".

Edited to add;

It now seems to have the heady title "WINDOWS DEFENDER". I'm half expecting an animated paperclip in a lycra suit!

Ben, this is a known issue.

If you can mail me, I'll send you the fix. Its a worm called "Sasser". A good AV program will get rid of it - download the free AVG software if you haven't got it already.

Is your operating system Windows XP?

Good to have you back mate, hope the business is coming along okay.

Cheers

Depends on what you've said to download.

If I recall the malicious software removal tool is an optional download from Windows Update, not mandatory.

If it still reboots, you've got the link to download it anyway.

Get yourself the AVG Free edition of its A/V program if you haven't got an A/V program at the minute - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

If you've got lsass.exe running does that mean you've got the Sasser virus?

I've got it running on my 2 PCs and I'm sure it's been there for ages, never had any problems with weird stuff happening though. I've got AVG and it's updated pretty much daily...

No, Lsass.exe is the local security authority service.

Sasser, I think (havent read much about it), emulates lsass.exe as a process to hide itself.
