I posted this last night to Pie & Piston, wondering if anyone here can help

I have a website, that when viewed locally works perfectly. But when I upload it and view it online it doesnt work. Basically certain bits of code are being removed by browsers. Some people can view site fine, others get bits missing.

I have emptied cache, re-uploaded site. Tried it in 3 different browsers (IE, firefox and Opera) and all get the same results.

I have extracts of code below:

online version:
<tr>
<td colspan="6"><center><img src="images/banner.jpg" width="790" height="100">
</center></td>
</tr>
<tr>
local version:
<table width="800" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
<tr>
<td width="203">&nbsp;</td>
<td width="116">&nbsp;</td>
<td width="116">&nbsp;</td>
<td width="116">&nbsp;</td>
<td width="116">&nbsp;</td>
<td width="131">&nbsp;</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan="6"><center><img src="images/banner.jpg" width="790" height="100">
</center></td>
</tr>
<tr>
You can see when I view the source locally the image is there, but when i goto Edit: View Source: online that bit of code is missing?

I have checked the file is there and in the correct place on the server, I have also tried deleting the file and re-uploading it.

Site is www.speed-shot.co.uk

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Stuart

What I see doesn't look like either of those, so either you're still playing with it or you aren't looking at what you think you are.

Might be a dumb suggestion but you haven't turned off images loading somewhere have you? That should turn off your javascript menus as well though

The site works fine for me and replicates in the source as you seem to want it though, suggesting the problem is localised on your machine? or have you tried on others as well?

I must have images turned on as I can see pictures in pistonheads and other sites.

It seems to be about 50/50 some people the site works as intended, others get the same problem I do.

Got my mate to try it at 1024x768 (the resolution im running) he says it still works fine, just everything is bigger.

Its very bizzare isnt it?

Has the code that doesn't appear been added recently? Could be ISP server caching?

Its a new page, I deleted the old site and re-uploaded the new one last night.

You think it could be a problem with my ISP?

If so is their a way that I can tell my browser to bypass the ISP cache? and always get the newest version?

From reading this I'm not actually clear what it is supposed to look like - in any case here's what it renders as for me:

IN addition to that, the code you say is missing in your first post is present when I view the site.

Because your image is called "banner" it's possible that ad blocking software is hiding it. Maybe if you renamed your banner.jpg to header.jpg that might help...

Thats what is should look like!!!

Do you also get pictures on the galleries page, it is hiding those images as well?

I have a javascript pre-load code on the page, it pre-loads the galleries images ane the banner pic i think, I may try removing that and see if it helps.

Yep it's possible if people are seeing different pages who have different ISPs. You could rename the page to something totally new and try browsing it then and see what happens. It'll give you a pointer anyway.

Looks ok here, but you've got a rollover graphic missing for the home button.

Ok,

the banner is working now since i renamed it to mainimage.jpg, so it must have been getting filtered out by something.

Now though i am still missing pics on galleries page.

It cant be filtering these out, they have normal names like DSC_0934 Porsche 911.jpg etc

Try to avoid using spaces in your file names, if you must have a space in the name use an underscore

DSC_0934 Porsche 911.jpg

will become

DSC_0934%20Porsche%20911.jpg

if you have space in your file names,

so if I was you I would rename the images and alter the code to reflect this.

Cheers

tried renaming the 1st image on the galleries page from

DSC_1379 Orange Single Seater.jpg

to

2005DHC_Thumb.jpg

re-uploaded and emptied cache, but even with no spaces it wolnt appear.

I've also removed the pre-load javascript stuff at the top.

It's so annoying when something doesn't work and you can't see why?

Thanks for everyones help,

Stick this in the head

<META http-equiv="expires" content="0">

It's working here, I think you're chasing a problem that is specific to your machine, not your site.
