Windows Mobile Help!
Discussion
Hi Folks,
I've just got a T-Mobile MDA (same as imate Jam and Orange SPV M500). Never had one before so it's all new to me.
I've "obtained" some software for it games, dictionery, maps, the usual sort of thing but I cant get any of it to install.
I've been copying from my pe ont a 1Gb SD card which I them put into the PDA, access the card click on the setup and all I get is "XXXXX is not a valid Pocket PC application", but it is!
What am I doing wrong? Is it the format of the card or perhaps some settings I need to change?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Bob.

That's not how you install Pocket PC apps. MS have crippled the Pocket PC to make it a peripheral of a desktop machine, so you can't just buy a Pocket PC and (shock, horror) use someone elses OS to host it.
Anyhow, what you do is connect the PPC to your desktop, establish a connection with the synchronisation software (name forgotten - I deleted Winblows Mobrule off my iPaq within days of getting it) then make as if you were going to install the PPC software on the desktop (e.g. double click on it and answer the questions). The installer will recognise that it's a PPC app and install it on the PPC.

Actually, you can often obtain the CAB install file. If you copy this direct to the flash card, you can then run the installer application directly on the PDA. Some download sites offer the option to download the CAb file only, which is what I do in preference.

That's why it's so important I get it working!
But seriously, thanks to the advice from you guys I've managed to get a few programs running. It still seems hit and miss, but I suppose that's just the nature of downloads.

Have a look on here if you get stuck..
