Streaming music in network?

[benojir]

Hi,

we have a wireless network in our flat with 3 pcs. Does anyone know if it's possible to use a program to stream music through the network, so all the pc's hear the same track simultaneously?

cheers,

ben

Icecast is a high end streaming server, and it's open source too. www.icecast.org/

Not sure if you can stream the same track to different clients simultaneously; aren't there always different latencies in different network connections?
This may answer that question: www.gnuware.com/icecast/chap_01_03.html

I played with this on Sun's about 20 years ago (not Icecast - streaming audio). We had a whole room of machines playing the same Led Zep track.

Except they were all a tiny bit out of synch. Sounded terrible.
