TomTom wont install on PDA
Discussion
AAAAAAAAAAAGGH!
As you can gather I'm having trouble intalling Tomtom 3 onto my T-Mobile MDA (like SPV M500, imate Jam etc.)
Every time (on two different machines - one win2000 the other XP) it crashes out and generates an error. I gather that this issue has been know for some time, but as yet I cannot find a solution.
Any help would be really appreciated!
Bob.

Cant find a link now but i am certain this has been discussed on www.modaco.com
Might be worth a look round the forums.

It's the standard windows program error i.e. it crashes out.
"Setup.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program."
I've already looked on Modaco but the closest I could find was this...
"Hi, I had the same issue on a SPV M3000.
The CD version you have is designed to create the SD install version,
which fails through Activesync (Are u using TTN5 5.0, 5.1 or 5.2?).
Either you find an SD card reader for you PC and can install from CD,
or you find an SD version of Tomtom."
I have an SD Card & reader but the CD doesn't attempt to create a SD install version.
I can vouch for it being an activesync compatability problem as it works if the PDA is not plugged in - up to the point of not being able to find the PDA. So I plug it in and it crashes
Any thoughts gents?

I had this. Resorted to creating an install not on the PDA but in a directory on the PC then, just copied it across wholesale.
Worked fine.
Ooh, tell me more!
I can't seem to get tomtom to allow me to choose where it installs it jjust automatically looks for the PDA and won't continue till it finds it.
I tried copying it from the CD onto an SD card but when I tried to run the program on the phone it just complained it wasn't the correct kind of file.
What exactly did you do to get it going?
Sure is!
After quite a bit of research I've gathered that there is a long stannding problem with Activesync and the TommTom software. So far I have fund no workarounds and TomTom offer no fixes other than using the version of the software already innstalled on an SD card. CD versions are a no-goer.
I've decided to start looking into other software such as Co-Pilot.
Anyone want to buy an original Tomtom 3 CD?
