Hi all, I'm going to be in the market soon for a PDA and want one with GSM access. I'm guessing that all of the ones available will be able to run windows progs and also TomTom navigator software. A few colleagues have XDAs and I know there are a few HP/Compac ones out there, but does anyone have any suggestions please?

Been playing with these for a few years now, and a couple of words:
1) Be sure you need a PDA with phone capabilities, and not a Smartphone. The convergence thing is still a little way off, to be honest.
2) Dont forget that its NOT a windows PC, so wont run the same programmes that run on your PC. It runs cut down versions, some of which are installed, some of which you buy.

Given all that, check the following list, and you'll be OK:
Make sure it runs Windows Mobile 5, not WM2003
Buy a decent Bluetooth headset at the same time
Get a reasonable sized memory card, and install ANY new apps onto the memory card
Go to a few phone stores, and try playing with the devices. This is important as they are mostly bricks compared to the pure breed phones. Then hop online, and find a decent price. You may even find that your current provider will do you a decent price for an upgrade.

Declaration of interests: Currently choosing between an iMate JasJar, an HP6515 and a nokia 7280 (the last for tarting it in bars )

Don't do it.

I have tried a HP 6340 & a T-mobile Vario.

Useless as a phone, and slow and too big as a PDA.

I now use an Acer as a PDA (slim & v light) and a K750i phone.

Think through why you need one device. If you use the phone as much as I do, the battery life will drive you nuts - I couldn't get through a working day!
