So I backed something up from t'interweb, and instead of a 350mb video file, it's a folder filled with loads of .rar files.

File extension says that's a compressed file that can be used with Picozip (which I have), but I have no idea how to make the files back into a video...

Any ideas?

Try unzipping any file. It should stitch them together as one file which is usually AVI or MPEG. Watch as normal on PC or use some conversion software like NERO to convert and burn to DVD.

Cool, that worked thanks.

However, I appear to have backed up an hour long video of a grey rectangle..

Sounds like a codec problem. Try opening it in Windows Media Player, Realplayer etc. One or the other will tell you what codec you need, and you can then start the search!

Yeah, looks like a Codec problem (grr, I hate codecs). I've tried it in Win media player + realplayer, no error messages about Codecs.

try videolan.

www.videolan.org

I haven't bothered installing any codecs since I rebuilt my box, and have never had a problem with not being able to play anything.
