Hi,

I am having a big problem with citrix at the moment it is not showing identical files and folders for people who are logged in remotly, but anyone on the local network it is showing the correct files and folder structure..

Does citrix update its files and folder structure in a cache every evening?? or is there something more fundamentally wrong

Is this a drive mapping on the citrix box to another server, or files on the local disk, or a drive mapping back to the clients..? Could it be a file / directory permissions problem..?

My gut feeling is this is going to turn out to be one of those you kick yourself over

I'd second that!

Do the remote users ever access Citrix via the LAN you mentioned, i.e. are they always remote or do they 'come into the office' sometimes? If they do, does everything work correctly then? Can you give an example of what does/doesn't appear? How is the remote access achieved (VPN, NFuse/WI)?

Assuming you are talking about MetaFrame / Presentation Server, then here are some pointers:

1. It is multi-user Windows (i.e. Windows Terminal Services), so the OS is Windows, there is no "file cache" or similar. Generalising a bit, but it is no different to RDP'ing to a XP machine, only lots of users are doing it at once and getting their own desktop.

2. As others have said, where are the files. You say "file and folder structure" - what do you mean:
- on the local Terminal Services server
- on a network share local to the Terminal Services server
- on the client devices themselves

3. How are remote users gaining access (Access Gateway, AAC, CSG, WI, NFuse, straight ICA etc).

4. What do they see versus what should they see - i.e. what is actually wrong?

5. "Remote users" are still connecting to the local server - so (generally) there is no difference to what local users see. However if you are enabling/disabling virtual channels by policy or different TCP listeners etc then this could impact which users connect to client drives etc.

6. What happens if you log on with a "remote user" account - i.e. someone has the problem, using i) ICA, ii) RDP.

The problem is still not ironed out completly....

When viewing the drive on the local area connection you can see all files and folders, but when you access via CITRIX METAFRAME, and look at the drive, some folders and files are missing.

The external Client is accessing the files through a gateway, but when logging in to CITRIX through the local network and open explorer from CITRIX the files are still missing when i can see them through XP-Explorer.... I am starting to bang my head agaist a very hard wall.......

The drive is mapping to another server. but he can se 10 files in a particular folder but cannot see the other 50 or so.... So i am confused of why i can not see an identical file structure....

Are the user credentials and permissions being supplied to the Citrix box and the ones being supplied via the network share the same?

WEll yes and No...

The local domain to login is xxxxx.ed
The external login Domain is xxxxx.ad

Where the external login domain is just a duplication of permissions from the ed to ad for people who work offsite....

Can the users write to the directory in question from both user environments (i.e. PC on LAN and through Citrix)? If you save a dummy text file from one environment, can it be seen in the other? Also, do you have DfS implemented?

I'd check the exact permissions on the files you can see, and the files you can't. Is one user working with 'offline files'? Also, they are definatley, definatley, definatley mapping to the same share? (sorry to be a bit egg-sucky

Has a resolution been found for this problem? Just curious!

I bet the contents of my wallet that it isn't a direct duplication. This is screaming file permissions to me. Go through and reset all the file permissions on each folder. Add people explicitly if necessary to make sure.

mine too but thats a moth an 2 ha'pennies so not that much of an incentive to reset a whole load of permissions
