I'm in the process of writing a website for a friend. I've put in at the bottom of each page a little link to my site "developed by xxx"

The thing is my friend is not very good with IT and wants to look after the site herself. eg. Update News and other information.

This is ok with me as it saves me doing it, but when she told me she wanted a website developed I asked her to jot down some ideas on paper - She wanted every page on the site a different colour (lots of black backgrounds and pink "funky" writing.

I obviously told her this was stupid and showed her the theme I had developed for her (which she's really happy with) but there is nothing to stop her changing it herself after I hand the site over (which would have my name on it!)

Personally I don't think its going to get much traffic so is it really worth me putting my name to something that once I hand over I won't have any control over?

Thanks,

Phill

Make the link "Originally designed by" just in case?

If it is not going to get much traffic is there any point in having your name associated with it?

Or, put "Powered by x Content Management" or something along those lines?

Thats what i'm thinking. Would be nice to get some credit for it though but its not worth the hassle or (limited) bad publicity if she makes stupid changes to it!

The question is if you are looking for more web design work as a consequence of people seeing this. If it's just there for vanity then don't put your name on it. If not I'd say something like "Concept by xxxx, maintained by yyyy".

I designed the original site for the organisers of one of the national championships run under licence from the MSA. I elected to remove my name from it before it went live as the championship co-ordinator was going to be updating it so I had no control over what it would look like from there on. I'm not a web page designer by trade though and not looking to do more so not concerned about people seeing what I've done and wanting to hire me - the only reason to leave my name on it would have been vanity. I write assembly language for a living, this was done as a favour for a friend at "mates rates".
