Installing a new internal HDD
Discussion
Sounds to me like it just needs a drive letter mapping to it and then formatting. In XP :
Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management
Find the new disk, right click on it and set a drive letter to it (Change drive letter and path) and then right click on it and format it with NTFS. Job done hopefully.
PS : Make sure you format the right drive else you're buggered...!

Choose New Partition. If it asks a type, NTFS is best (assuming you aren't wanting to access it in DOS or pre Windows 2000). Once the partition's on you can format it and allocate letters.

I've done that, but can't seem to allocate a letter. When I right click it gives me the options, New Partition, Properties and Help ?
or convert to Dynamic Disk ? when I click on DISK 1
Says it's Unallocated
