I'm thinking of switching my service provider from cable to either BT or Bulldog. Bulldog have a very attractive introductory offer of £9.75 per month at the moment for broadband. Can anyone recommend them or give me feedback on the service that they have received from them, please?

my only bit of advice on broadband would be not to go with anyone you've seen advertised on telly!!! Bulldog is just Cable & Wireless re-branded due to their appalling track record so I would avoid them like the plague personally. BT I've had to deal with a few times for mates, and again wouldn't touch them with a very long stick.

Carphone warehouse are supposed to be bringing out free high quality broadband for people who sign up to their landline package, but I dont know about their customer service.

My personal choice is Newnet - they have grown a bit too big recently which means I now usually have to wait a couple of minutes to get through with any queries - used to be within 3 rings, problems sorted instantly. I've got 6 BB accounts with them, their staff are extremely helpful (with the exception of a couple of saturday girls!) and the pricing is reasonable.

I've had no problems with Bulldogs broadband or as it is now, bundled service. I can't recall any downtime of service in b/b or phone line.

They did mess up my billing once which took a while to sort (when C&W acquired them) but they waived a couple of months of b/b & line rental to make up for it.

In comparison with my colleagues using other providers, it's been pretty painless.

I'm currently with Bulldog. Had loads of problems at the beginning, but only with them not taking the payment! I set up the DD when i joined up but they never took it. Called numerous times etc. but never got anywhere. Also had a problem when I upgraded from 1 to 2meg - did a speed check and found only 1 meg. Called to be told it was actioned a week ago and i now had 2meg. After insiting i didn't and emailing the speed test results it was sorted pretty quick.

The billing finally got sorted this Feb, 13 months after setup. So i didn't pay for over a year and never got cut off, and was upgraded in the meantime!

All is running smoothly now and I've never had a single network outage in over a year.

Cheer,

Johnny

Well as far as phones are concerned carphone warehouse doesn't exactly have the best reputation either.

Frankly any broadband or phone provider is going to have problems, especially the large ones, they are too concerned with profit and not enough on customer services.

I'm with bulldog for phone and broadband, I had some problems at first which required dealing with their appalling customer service, but have been pretty much trouble free since then (for the past 9 months) so watch it all come crashing down tonight now that I've said that. I will probably cancel it once the year contract for phone is up as I will likely be moving flat then, I'll bet that will be difficult. I think we use Demon at work and they have had numerous problems and outages over the past year.

I've yet to meet a Demon user that hasn't had problems - any here? Mate is currently going through a 2 yr battle with them that is now involving courts n bailiffs and the like - steer clear at all cost.

The actual broadband part of their service seems to be good however their customer service is truly appalling. A lot of us used them at work until recently and it was really interesting trying to cancel the subscription and getting them to take the markers off the line (so that you can use broadband from another company).

I've been with Demon for broadband for just over 2 years, and I think I've only had two outages in that time. One was pretty recent, the other one was a while ago and I think they both lasted about an hour and a half or two hours.

I don't think that's too bad - certainly not bad enough to take the risk of changing.

That's about the best I've heard! Had any problems with their CS or billing departments?

wouldnt touch Bulldog. their engineers were nearly banned from BT exchanges due to the number of faults they are creating late last year.

Massive, we transfered an account and then canceled it 8 months later, no problems, they are now chasing for 22 months of unpaid direct debit payments ( from the first account ). Bunch of muppets. Call centre is in india they have record of the orginal contract but none of the transfered one ( although they took payments and rang me to chase me once I cancelled ), cant do anything unless it is on the system. Useless.

Broadband service - good
Customer support and managent systems - bag of bollox

We have been on Demon for about 10 years. Started out with them on dialup years and years ago. So impressed with the sevice (and we're fussy) over that time that we just recently got upgraded to BB with them (only just got BB in our part of Scotland).

Customer service has been good. And not aware of any down time.

Switched to Demon a few months back from Plus after they brought in their usage policy of 20Gb a month 8am-12am download limits.

Demon were 2 pounds a month cheaper, excellent speed, no outages and spot on customer services.

Huge thumbsup.

Edit and unlimited use.

I was with the British doggy company at uni. Was a pretty good service... but I cancelled in August as I moved and since then I've been recieving random invoices via email. I've called up and told them to sort it out and stop sending me invoices, but they still come and they never take money from my account.

If they're THAT unorganised, I wouldn't go with them again.

Very happy with Plus.net now

Thats definitely the option to take. Talk Talk want an 18 month contract and so although the deal looks good it is also dependent on location so I know I can't get it.

Interested to read the comments about Demon as I always thought people thought they were fantastic! Personally I am with AOL and with them people either love em, or loathe em. I am in the love catergory and can't recall any downtime in the last 18 months but ithers almost certainly have different views!

My guess is that other ISPs will be looking at their pricing and comparing to the Talk Talk deal, and Sky are suppossed to be doing something soon as well.

Wait a month or two is my guess.

Nothing to speak of. Last time there was an outage (about three weeks ago) their recorded message said everything was fine, but I couldn't speak to anyone because they were all busy. About half an hour into the outage, the message changed.

I've had no billing problems - was with them for dialup for maybe six years before we got broadband, and I've never really needed to speak to Customer Services.

They're not cheap and they're not perfect, but I don't think I could do much better elsewhere, and sometimes it's better the Devil you know.

sorry about that last bit
