Can anyone recommend a (preferably free) tool that will convert wmv's to mpg's? (The wmv's started off as mpgs and have been edited in Movie Maker, but the damn thing will only save in wmv, and I need an mpg.)

What you need is Stoik Video convertor, the free version will do WMV - AVI and AVI to WMV conversions.

Movie Maker will save in AVI, so if you already have an AVI->MPEG converter, you're in business.

Forgot to say, if you really want it in Mpeg format (I do personally think that Avi is better) there are many free or time limited avi-mpeg convertors around

Windows Media Encoder from Microsoft is free, and dead handy for compression and format conversion.

Gnome Media Player won't play avi's, and I won't use proprietary formats unless I absolutely have to.
