Does anyone know of a good free P2P facility to use, as an alternative to Limewire?

I've used Limewire for a year now and I love the fact that it generally yields great results. However, the program itself really buggers up my computer. It ALWAYS loads up on startup whether I want it to (and tell it to) or not, and it only reloads automatically if I shut it down. I've also just noticed that it dumps files on my computer constantly without any request from me - I recently found 21gb (yep, you read it right) of porn-relatedly-named files stashed in a hidden file on my computer.

As such I'd really like to find some other free program to use. Any suggestions?

I've tried several reinstallations without any change in the way the program works, so I can only assume that the program has conflict issues with something else on my computer. Ccleaner hasn't really done a great deal for me to be honest.

Shareaza, it can connect to different P2P based networks on the Edonkey and Gnutella including Limewire, Bearshare, Bittorrents, Morpheus and others.

How did you find them...?
Where were they?

I noticed that my available space on my C drive was very small. The C drive is a 30gb partition of a larger drive, but it was telling me I had only a couple of hundred mb available. As I only use this drive for Windows, Office and Adobe programs I found this hard to believe. I used trial and error (highlighting files and clicking on 'properties') to locate the files, and found them in the 'complete' section of my personal folder within 'documents and settings' on the C drive. They are zipped files, approximately 500kb each, and there are tens of thousands of them!

I'm not for one minute suggesting this problem is likely to exist with everyone's computers. My girlfriend has had limewire installed on her computer for about six months and has never had a problem, although she has only used limewire perhaps two or three times. I just think there is a compatibility problem with my computer and limewire. Incidentally my computer works extremely well when limewire is uninstalled, although I have to say I've never managed to completely uninstall it.

To see where your disk space is going, download jdiskreport, it digs down and gives you a graphical and text representation of where all your lovely GBs are being gobbled up.

No more trial and error clicking on properties, right click, choose jdiskreport, bob's your uncle.

Years ago I downloaded a version of Limewire that promptly installed a whole pile of mal and adware plus IE search bars.

Turns out not all versions released into the wild are clean.

Could be that you have a hacked install so reinstalling from that will never solve the problem.

I spent a few hours this weekend sorting out my Bro's comuter after he'd downloaded some cracked software. The Keygen that came with it had a number of trojans in it including allowing full 3rd party control and AV software disablement.

Be careful out there!

I had the porn and illegal software zip problem once..

Virus that's knocking around, that's all - Mcafee detected mine and removed 'em
