Just downloaded a file through our intranet which is a .iso file.

Now how do I open it? (I know that a .iso file is a CD image )

You want to open it or burn it?

To burn, point your favorite CD burning tool at it.

To open, you'll need a cunning bit of software to mount it up as a psudo CDROM drive.

Thanks!

Found daemon-tools on the web, or can you suggest something else?

Should do it. I use Nero myself... although not sure if it's available in Welsh!

Either use your CD burning software to burn it onto a disk (look for the "Burn ISO" option on the menu) or dowload Daemon Tools (www.download.com/Daemon-Tools/3000-7970_4-10376891.html) to mount it as a virtual disk on your PC.

ETA - Damn, way too slow this time

You know, deamon-tools was the bit of sortware I was trying to recall the name of to tell you....

I think it's what I use to mount ISOs without burning them.

There are a bunch of tools out there.

vCDControlTool.exe is the most common, and free.

WinRAR the most functional, costs but has a free trial period.

Google will locate you a download for each.

Cheers, Red.

I think daemontools must rank as one of the greatest pieces of free software out there behind DC++, I use it daily.

Alternatives;

ISOBuster will read .iso files and allow you to extract all of just parts of the iso file. Alcohol 120% can burn an ISO directly to disc.

There's also a free PowerTool for XP that adds "Burn as ISO" to the standard XP CD-ROM burning stuff.

It works well enough - the Solaris CDs I made with it worked OK.

I think that Microsoft Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel is what you want.
