my dell inkjet has run out of ink, and it seems almost impossible to get new cartridges or refills from anywhere other than dell itself (surely i dont have to pay £45 for 2 new ink cartridges do i?)

i would have thought that refill shops should be able to do dell cartridges, but i cant find one that does.

so my question is:
is it possible to get dell inkjet cartridges (its an all in one 922 if that makes a difference) for less than £45?
or if not, do you know of anywhere that will refill the ones i have?

cheers

Best I could find with a 5 minute search:
www.cartridgesave.co.uk/cartridge-list/Dell/922.html

Alternatively there seem to be quite a lot of self-refill kits available for around £10-£15 but I have never tried these myself. Can anyone recommend them?

A quick google says that it's based on the Lexmark X5270.

In fact... I think all Dell printers are re-badged Lexmark units.

I'd bet a lot of money that it uses the same cartridges!

£45 for 2 ink carts is unfortunatley about the right price.
Low end inkjets are sold on the razors & blades principle, the £32 printer needs £40's worth of refils and comes with carts that are to all intents and perposes half empty (sortty I mean limited capacity demonstration units).

Myself and Sadako just get cheap printers (samke make, model) when one of the carts goes dry. It works out cheaper.

Apparently they are and they do BUT the cartridges are slightly re-shaped.

We got a 'free' Dell printer with a Notebook a few months ago. My Eldest has toaken the printer to Uni and I decided to get some spare ink 'just in case' the standard starter did not last long.

Many places don;t claim to offer an Dell related cartridges but these people do (though I see that what is not on a-offer is slightly different to what was on offer then iirc)

www.inkandmedialtd.co.uk/acatalog/Dell_Cartridges.html

And the service was incredible. I ordered late one afternoon - around or after 5pm as I recall - and they arrived on the post next day.

A mate did this, just sold the printer when the ink ran out.

I'm doing fine with my Canon i250 - cost me £35 to buy, 3rd party replacement cartridges cost me a whopping £1.36 for black and £2.10 for colour and work fine. Photo output isn't brilliant on that ink, but IME it's cheaper to use one of the online printing services once you've paid out for decent paper and stuff. Fine for the odd map though.

Sadly it seems no-one does cheap compatible cartridges for the Dells - I don't know if it's for some technical reason or just them not getting round to it yet. At £45 I'd just buy a new one and check how cheaply you can get cartridges. I've found Epsons and Canons usually have good cheap ones available.
