Fadded Icon

Hopefully a easy question to answer from one of you technical types, I have a faded ( Greyed ) icon on my desktop ( Windows XP Home Edition. When I try to delete this file I get the error message : cannot delete file: cannot read from the source or disk .

It is not causing a problem just making the desktop look cluttered.

Sounds like it's a hidden file. Does the name bear any relevance to something you know (e.g. a word document)?

Failing that, you can delete it forceably if you so desire...

Yes it was a word document that was emailed to me, it seems to have lost it's file extension aswell.I do not need the file in fact I deleted it after reading it

have you tried the obvious of restarting and the like?

The easiest way usually is to kill the explorer.exe process whilst you have the task-manager open and use a command window to navigate to the folder and then subsequently delete the necessary file. Problem is, easy to say, harder to describe the exact actions
